Privacy Policy for the Use of "JupyterHub.nrw"

"JupyterHub" enables the use of cloud resources in the WWU Cloud for purposes of study, teaching, and research, such as interactive data analysis. Below, we would like to provide you with information on the processing of personal data in connection with the use of "JupyterHub".

3. Data Processing when using "JupyterHub"

a) Scope of Data Processing

When you use the "JupyterHub" service provided by the University of Münster, we process and store the following data:

  • Username
  • Email address
  • Group memberships
  • User-generated data (home directory)
  • Data from PALMA that you access in "JupyterHub"
  • Logs and metrics

If you use external services connected to "JupyterHub", we process and store the following data from these services:

  • Username or ID
  • Group memberships
  • Access tokens
  • Data stored by the service that you access in "JupyterHub"

This specifically applies to: * Sciebo university cloud * PUNCH4NFDI services/Helmholtz AAI

b) Purposes of Data Processing

The processing of your personal data serves to make "JupyterHub" available to you for studies, teaching, and research. Logs and metrics are stored for the purposes of error diagnosis, IT security, and statistics.

If the processing of your personal data in connection with the use of "JupyterHub" is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the University of Münster, Article 6(1)(e) GDPR in conjunction with Section 3(1) of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HSG NRW) and Section 3(1) of the Data Protection Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (DSG NRW) serve as the legal basis for the processing. If the University of Münster obtains your consent for the processing of personal data in connection with the use of "JupyterHub", Article 6(1)(a) GDPR or Article 9(2)(a) GDPR serve as the legal basis.

d) Other Recipients of Your Personal Data

When using the external services mentioned in a) above, these services receive information about your login and usage of the respective service. Your user data from "JupyterHub.nrw" will only be transferred if you explicitly use it with the service.

e) Duration of Storage of Personal Data

Logs containing non-pseudonymized personal data will be automatically deleted after 14 days. Pseudonymized metrics will be stored indefinitely. All other data will be automatically deleted after 6 months without login.

4. Your Rights as a Data Subject

You have the right to access your personal data processed by the University of Münster (Article 15 GDPR), the right to rectification of your personal data (Article 16 GDPR), the right to erasure (Article 17 GDPR), the right to restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR), and the right to withdraw your consent (Article 7(3) GDPR). You can revoke your consent in writing or by email to any of the authorities listed under sections 1 and 2 (see above) of this privacy policy.
