Roadmap

Current Status

  • Participating institutions: All universities in NRW can join
  • Target group: Researchers, lecturers, and students who want to independently analyze/visualize data using scripting languages (Python, R, Julia) or programming languages (C++, Go, Rust)
  • Use cases: Data Science, Machine Learning, and Software Development (supported by corresponding JupyterHub Software Images, i.e. pre-installed software packages); additional images including Digital Humanities in planning
  • Use in courses/workshops: Initial simple use with task distribution, but without course management or grading

Roadmap

Q4 2024

  • Development of terms of use and privacy policy

Q1 2025

  • Hardware procurement and start of integration into Uni Cloud Münster
  • Setup of JupyterHub installations for consortium universities
  • Setup of software images for general use cases (Data Science, Machine Learning, Software Development)
  • Onboarding of consortium universities
  • Start of use for researchers, lecturers, and students (early adopters) at consortium universities
  • Setup of the JupyterHub.nrw website

Q2 2025

  • Development/integration of features for teaching
    • NBGitPuller for simple use of Jupyter notebooks in courses with notebook distribution via Git
    • First use in courses and workshops (with task distribution, but without course management or grading)

Q3 2025

  • Establishment of onboarding processes for new participating universities
  • Development/integration of new core features
    • Rescue mode and self-service option for cleaning the home directory
    • Log viewer

Q1 2026

  • Finalization of contract templates "Participation Agreement" and "Data Processing Agreement"
  • Finalization of terms of use and privacy policy
  • Relaunch of the JupyterHub.nrw website

Q2 2026

  • Opening of the service to new participating universities in NRW

Q4 2026

  • Start of testing the course management software e2x (complete course lifecycle: provision, editing, submission, and grading of exercises)
  • Start of testing the LMS plugin for Moodle integration

Q1 2027

  • Start of testing the LMS plugin for ILIAS integration
  • Planning for the continuation of the project

Q2 2027

  • Integration of the course management software e2x
  • Full integration with Moodle and ILIAS (complete course lifecycle)

Q3 2027

  • Piloting of exam administration (selected courses)
  • Clarification of organizational and legal framework conditions for exam administration

Q1 2028

  • End of the 1st project phase

  • Updates and expansion of JupyterHub Software Images
  • Development of new specialized software images (e.g. Digital Humanities)
